At work we are uing BSDs extensivly for almost all aspects, except as hardware crypto modules (HSMs). We are also using BSDs as workstations for the daily toil. This of course require a set of usage policies to formalise what is accepted and not. I'm glad we managed to get NetBSD into the official company policy with the following condition Must run on workstation/laptop hardware. Coffee brewers, toasters or other household appliances are explicitly forbidden from accessing production network. On a sader note, OpenBSD is no longer allowed access, when 7.7 goes out of official support in a few weeks time, due to the decision to remove yubikey-otp keyboard support in the kernel from 7.8. Oh well Cheers and RunBSD!

The ports team for #OpenBSD have just declared that all commits now require explicit approval of sthen@ or naddy@ due to the pending release of 7.9. Good news for users hanging out for the release as this means the ports build will be underway shortly and base is now frozen.

In Japanese, though, possibly you'll be interested. I myself never tried, but there's LUNA 68k/88k emulator, nono introduced here. Upstream here (Japanese site).

@rl_dane @darth I think one reason BSD don't get much attention is right about this mindset, and the impression that a chunk devs don't really like it very much.Surely not the people in Red Hat.There isn't much heat for desktop BSD branches as far I see, beside because rarely succeded, and in part because "desktop" became synonymous of "linux mess", things that is very far from what BSD try to stay.I cannot blame the feeling. Some decisions in the linux space makes me facepalm.

@philvuchetich , you bring up a good point and a problem we have solved at other conferences. For OpenZFS Portland 2025 myself, @dexter and additional AV volunteers put together a very smooth solution and had very happy Europeans and an Aussie fully participating to the point that it felt like they were in the room with us. We had break out sessions led by an offsite person and it was all very effective. It also takes lots of management,setup time, hardware, and effort however. While I am not at all opposed to the idea of streaming the tutorial(s), we would Need to have a full (er)AV team onsite days earlier than we have already have planned and purchased tickets for and we would certainly need additional hardware. In this case, the repo maintainer was kind enough to tell you what AI was used in each file. Look at the file names. Most of them are DallE.

I've been using OpenBSD for my projects for the last few release cycles and I feel comfortable upgrading, etc. but I'll keep this for sharing with others. Great post.
