First and foremost I am a Humanitarian. This ideology overshadows every aspect of my life. I am also a Philosopher, Mathematician and Software Architect as well as a Developer. I love art in all its forms and I will hold a conversation with anyone that is polite, even if they disagree with me. My computer science background can be found on my blog post here. As well as more insight on my moniker can be found here. I play around with FreeBSD on one of my home servers. I also play around with OpenIndiana. I primarily use Fedora based distros such as Fedora Workstation and Rocky Linux on my VPS. I also use custom builds of Gnu/Linux on some of my desktops, such as my GMKtec mini. I do not use any Microsoft OSes at all and have not for quite some time (decades). That does not mean I am not familiar with the domain as I have supported many friends and family on their Microsoft OS platforms. I maintain a Friendica Instance on the Fediverse. It has been a real pleasure and sometimes a point of frustration maintaining the Instance. I do enjoy the challenge though.

@ptribble thank you for the reply. My error re nfs... probably getting Tribblix confused with Open/NetBSD. The emcryption would be interesting. Perhaps even if it was only data partitions encrypted for now and auto unlockable then root/FDE later. Not sure if #alpinelinux or #ChimeraLinux would be a useful starting point as both do native encrypted zfs.

fix the code location for the doc tree … It doesn't need fixing, we might need to contact them. What works for the src tree (in the first screenshot below) does not work for the doc tree (second shot). [image: 1775276658791-261d9e5a-1b05-4950-9bfd-1e03904d139f-image.jpeg] [image: 1775276700827-ab9776c2-f7cb-4c58-81a7-e0df05aa9caa-image.jpeg] The previous repo URL was the cgit URL. Before I removed it, today, IIRC there was the same red alert: Error: This Code Location is flagged as Do Not Fetch. Please contact us for assistance – with the same status: Step 1 of 3: Downloading source code history (Failed about 2 years ago.) There's an on-screen suggestion to wait twenty-four hours. I will wait, although given the failure about two years ago: I doubt that it'll make a difference. [image: 1775280296655-67daeab0-2790-4c4f-84b3-ed5dd0bf4460-image.jpeg] There's a suggestion of "special handling" in the help forum. There's also no response to a report that someone made more than five months ago, which is not particularly special

Stating the obvious: there'll always be work within professions such as plumbing, carpentry, and building. Hands-on building. Hands-off building, with code as a virtual construction material: there's no obvious niche. I would not know where to start, or finish. I should optimtimistally assume that the vast majority of niches will be short-lived, compared to the lifetime of a human. I'm not a developer, but over the years I have thrown (or crowbarred) myself into various niches. Chandler was my favourite. I knew that development had ceased, but it was the best tool for the purpose at the time. Good luck!

The problem here was auto-fill. The normal hint is automatically hidden by my real email address (pixelated in the screenshot below): [image: 1775270267359-6404e482-4e9b-4ed8-99ce-17d9e0b61814-image.jpeg] Keyword in the screenshot above: whatever. My email address is used for the Mastodon instance, but does not identify the instance. Whatever. After clearing the auto-fill, the hint is visible: [image: 1775270520828-85e70b11-6b73-4649-8a46-757476cfbf2c-image.jpeg] Eg username@mastodon.social The opening post is solved (tagged), I have flagged it for a move to the test area. Apologies for the noise.

@hypostase The final version of the fix is now accepted and landed onto both main (aka latest) and 2026Q2. https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/commit/?id=a92d927574fca313453ae266f4e78517eb406a33 https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/commit/?h=2026Q2&id=1c9a29edad562f0650166239fba46dd8b2cc1fdd

@stefano is there an existing tool that is comparable in feature parity / CLI? Or is crossbow completely its own design?

I prefer new tabs for outgoing links: [image: 1775242252190-9a96606d-cd6e-4a85-96ed-bc24b2d09df4-image.jpeg] When I use the context menu at https://billboard.bsd.cafe/post/https%3A%2F%2Fsocial.linux.pizza%2Fusers%2Frestorante%2Fstatuses%2F116339353868717301 (for example) to open an original post, I'm taken away from Billboard in the same tab. This feels wrong. I can't find a matching open or closed issue at https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues.
