    A wild #blog post appears!I discuss a new #research publication: an empirical evaluation of the #OpenBSD -fret-clean flag. We examine the history of the mitigation, measure its costs, and deliberate whether or not it is worth keeping.Worth the read if you like security and/or compilers.https://briancallahan.net/blog/20260811.html#freebsd #netbsd #dragonflybsd #bsd #linux #unix #solaris #illumos #compiler #compilers #llvm #gcc #rop #cybersecurity #cybersec #cyber #security #infosec #informationsecurity

Just a little reminder on littleFedi's efficiency The instance https://rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it - with my user @stefano@rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it - has been running for over a month on a Raspberry Pi Zero W powered by NetBSD. Under normal operation, it uses 58 MB of RAM, including caches. And it shows no signs of slowness! #littleFedi #NetBSD #RunBSD #OwnYourData

@stefano @tg9541 @subnetspider I had smolBSD in mind sorry, newer macs run on arm64 which I didn't touched. You can still run the microvm kernel on an old x86 mac, I used one for my tests

NetBSD 11 is starting to show up on the NYC*BUG dmesgd service:https://dmesgd.nycbug.org/dmesgd?do=index&fts=NetBSD Launched in 2004, dmesgd aims to provide a user-submitted repository of searchable *BSD dmesgs. The dmesg(8) command displays the system message buffer's content, and during boot a copy is saved to /var/run/dmesg.boot. This buffer contains the operating system release, name and version, a list of devices identified, plus a whole host of other useful information. We hope others find this resource useful and further contribute to its growth. Contact us at [ admin at lists dot nycbug dot org ]. Note that this site is not a substitute for sending the dmesg directly to the respective project. Submit your dmesg here:https://dmesgd.nycbug.org/dmesgd?do=submitAnd if a handy script is what you are looking for, this Perl script from AFresh1 has long been the go-to for many submitters:https://gist.github.com/afresh1/99cdd481184147f0e8c0#runbsd #netbsd

@vlkrs No. You only started noticing jokes after AI became a thing. I have been making them long before that.

@joel Nah, the laptop runs Linux. The ethernet device was not well supported on NetBSD.I've been very unlucky with the old laptops I have. All of them have some kind of hardware issues with NetBSD.So it's kvm+qemu. And the VMs run the services. Firewall included.

@carapace @jaypatelani @chris__martin thank you! Not a blog post, yet. Everything was ready for a nice presentation at BSDCan but I had to retire. But it will come!
