Has anyone installed OpenBSD on a Framework 13 AMD 7840?

Do you realize that without any proof of what you're claiming, no one can help you? Without any logs—or, at the very least, a screenshot of the error—no help can be provided?

So far, the only person who has written anything substantial about using OpenBSD on the framework is @jcs; see
this article was written in August 2021; he officially reported the information and made few fixes.

(But your hardware is different, of course).
Based on the hardware specifications you've provided, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on OpenBSD or any other BSD. In principle, you can contact JCS through their dedicated page; see the information at the bottom of the page. Maybe he'll agree to help you… It's up to you, but without providing any reliable information, how do you expect to get the help you need?

I am going to give 7.9 a whirl as i just downloaded it. I will post updates as I go along.

Install worked but I was trapped with the lack of wireless support for the AX210. I don't have another OpenBSD box to install the firmware from and my Framework doesn't have Ethernet. Graphical login worked but the trackpad was not detected/enabled. I have an i3 NUC laying about and I may use that to test OpenBSD or maybe another BSD as OpenBSD doesn't have bluetooth support and I kind of need that for the external mouse I prefer.

OK, i was able to install OpenBSD 7.9 on the i3 NUC. Firmware has been installed via USB drive and my laptop (running CachyOS again) with the manual on screen. Wifi is up and operational. I may take this opportunity to modify my boot image to include the firmware as per the instructions.

For the record, and as a FYI for future you, it is possible do an offline install of OpenBSD from usb using installXY.img, then with another computer, make a fat32 formatted usb drive with your wifi firmware on it. then its as simple as running fw_update against the mounted usb drive following the manual page for it on your newly installed OpenBSD installation.

Do note- wifi firmware isn't the only firmware usually needed for full functionality on most amd64 devices. Once you get a network going, remember to run fw_update again with no arguments to fetch and install any other missing firmware.

Hi there, this is my first post here .

I managed to run OpenBSD 7.9 on my framework laptop 13 ryzen 300, and 840m with 32gb ram. Installer did not work. It always rebootet just before the interactive part started.
To get openbsd working I did:

• download Ubuntu

• sudo apt install virt-manager

• install an openbsd VM with its disk being the framework nvme

• reboot and boot into openbsd

Things seem to work

@CiotBSD everything i use (cwm,xterm,firefox) works. I put some load on it with llama.cpp and qwen, everything stable. Things that dont work: mediatek wifi chipset, Webcam, fingerprint, Bluetooth ... ?

The virt-manager way works. Also working is dd an installed OpenBSD image (GPT and uefi) from another system to framework nvme. I created an image in a chroot on my other openbsd box.

using dd is common sense; but creating a VM with nvme as disk and reboot on nvme: excellent!

except for the bluetooth—unless you use a USB audio dongle, It's weird that these devices aren't working; I dont known if it's normal, especially without the necessary information.

Have you try to test with fuguita? (livecd)

The only question left is whether it's possible to install it from Fuguita.
At the very least, this should let you know which devices are being detected correctly.
