Interesting ... Electric car vendor polestar withdraws from the US market. Why? Because they use extensive networking for data colleciton. And as we all know, the US are the most privacy and data protection aware country in the world. Therefore it's only logical that they're banned from the US market, as long as they don't offer data friedly cars without connectivity. Guess what, Polestar prefers withdrawing rather than changing their data and connection policy. Fortunately, there are alternatives to Polestar. Spoiler: Tesla isn't.#polestar #privacy #dataprotection https://www.heise.de/en/news/Cars-are-too-connected-Polestar-withdraws-from-the-US-market-11345344.html

The threat of age verification is becoming increasingly real. More and more states are seeking to introduce identity checks through the back door under the guise of age control, ostensibly for the protection of children. And an increasing number of providers, as well as open-source projects, are implementing this—partly in preemptive obedience—or are at least laying the groundwork for it.So far, the Fediverse remains a safe haven, an island of bliss. But what if the state seeks to control the age of users here as well? Unfortunately, the Fediverse is not immune to such attacks, because instances are operated by people who, in the worst-case scenario, could face legal penalties.Would like to hear your thoughts on this.#ageverification #privacy #freedom

@openrightsgroup @fellmoon It would also enable any authoritarian leaning government to hunt dissidents. This is a nightmare technology.

Upon request of an Exquisite.tube member we've digged into the P2P functionality and its privacy implication. As a consequence, we have disabled P2P for streaming by default.P2P video streaming means that your device shares the video while streaming it. This does expose your IP address (while having the video playback page open). This only applies to new accounts. If you have an existing account, you can go to your profile settings, untick the 'Help share videos being played' option and click the 'Save video settings'.Please be mindful with this setting on other instances. We have the bandwidth to stream a large number of concurrent plays - smaller instances might not have that luxury. Ask the instance staff when in doubt.Thank you!#PeerTube #Privacy #Streaming
