@funkybuddhaThank you. Speech Note was at the top of the list in Linux Mint, so I installed it for the guy and downloaded two large Vosk language models. I chose Vosk, because I had good success with it in Kdenlive auto-generating subtitles.It seemed not to hear me, so I checked the mic function in Audacity. I kept playing with it and it only produced the word 'the' repeatedly for the most part. Weird. Maybe I should have said 'no' to h/w acceleration? Thanks for your vote. I'm going to test it here at home on my own box and not give up on it.@menelion
