    To some the current shiny aqua-like orb logo may seem a little dated. I know it does for me. And it's probably a little hard to print and reproduce. We often see a newer logo, which I personally think is a huge improvement. Anyhow, I played around with the design this morning and wanted to share a refined version. Tell me what you think.

      Hi.
      In what capacity are you doing this work?
      Just as a reminder, the FreeBSD Foundation holds the rights to this and has set out the terms of use;
      see: https://freebsdfoundation.org/about-us/about-the-foundation/project/

      I may be wrong, but I’m not sure it’s legally possible to do what you want to do; is not-it?!

        It's purely private. In no way are these designs meant to replace anything and they're not affiliated with the project. More or less it's just a subjective idea that might start a discussion on how the project can optimise its appearance.

            I could link to 2024 and 2025 discussions about the BSD mascot (overlapping with the FreeBSD logo), and the FreeBSD logo, but they're too heated 😞

            Instead, a retrospective: FreeBSD logo page (Jun Kuriyama, 2006) : r/freebsd

            • includes a link to the Foundation's page.

            Official alternatives are neither shiny nor aqua-like …

            The new website, which should go live soon, uses flat and non-flat versions of the 2005 logo. The flat version is already visible at https://docs.freebsd.org/en/.

              Many thanks for the links and input. This will bring me up to speed. I do remember vaguely discussion and the competition back in 2005 when I was much more of a heavy user than lately.

              It's great hearing that work is on-going and the new site will go live soon!

                I have to say, i really like the glassy orb logo. i don't really think it needs changing. i think much the same WRT the website redesign. i like the skeumorphic layout. it reminds me of a time when the web was much more approachable without cleanup software like adblockers. i like the current freebsd website for the same reasons i like the OpenBSD website.
